As of January 14th, 2020 Microsoft will no longer be supporting nor releasing security patches for Windows 7. Microsoft was committed to supporting the Windows 7 product for 10 years, however as with XP, its lifecycle has come to an end. By now, many have already heard this news and have been taking proactive steps to upgrade or replace outdated computers. If this is news to you, then an immediate audit of your systems and infrastructure needs to occur.
This news doesn’t mean that your Windows 7 machines will stop operating. What it means is that there will no longer be releases of security patches and you will not be able to contact Microsoft for support if an issue arises. This is very concerning for any machine or plant that is running Windows 7. If your organization is governed by any compliance or regulatory agencies, this could mean you are out of compliance. Data security is a very important part of maintaining accurate records, and insecure machines are much more susceptible to attack and either manipulation of data or loss of data. The risks are high and the integrity of your network and business are at stake.
This issue is not specific to any one manufacturer or type of system. If you have Windows 7 or Windows XP running in your facility, contact us today to schedule a site visit so that we can determine an upgrade path that makes sense and makes use of your current investments. Act now to avoid unplanned and unnecessary risk or downtime.
If system upgrades are not practical at this time, there are steps that can be taken to allow you to securely continue to run outdated operating systems. We can help design, configure, and deploy a solution to help keep your production system secure. System security should not be taken lightly and should not be considered only when an operating system becomes outdated.
