We all know that Low NOx Burners help companies comply with EPA & AQMD requirements and improve efficiency. But let’s address, what is NOx and how does it affect the environment?

Nitrogen Oxides or NOx is a family of toxic and reactive greenhouse gases that are a common byproduct of combustion. When fuels are burned at a high heat, these nitrogen oxide gases are emitted. A primary source is Thermal NOx, caused by high-temperature combustion and is the most significant contributor of NOx.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Air Quality Management District (AQMD) set regulations to help minimize exposure to these gases. This exposure can pose risks to workers and the environment. The health risks range from vulnerability to asthma and respiratory infections but with long term exposure can cause more serious health problems, such as chronic lung disease.  These gases contribute to decreased water quality, global warming, smog and acid rain, ground-level ozone, and toxic chemicals. The ever-increasing need to implement low emission solutions is a reality of the world in which we do business. And the journey to becoming greener with even stricter emissions is permanent.

While regulations continue to change a continued focal point is the path to lower nitrogen oxide (or NOx) emissions. Low NOx Burners can help you reduce your carbon footprint to meet your facility’s sustainability goals. With long term relationships with multiple manufacturers, GTH Project Engineers will partner with you to determine the overall recommended solution(s) that will work best with your existing system.
